The council sets fees to cover the cost of its taxi-licensing regime.
We aim to set fees to cover our costs and in doing so are mindful of the impact any increase has on the trade. Fees are reviewed every year and changes in processes are taken into account.
The fees for the year 2019/2020 were approved on 13 November 2018, legislation states we must advertise the vehicle and operator fees and this advert was placed in the Surrey Advertiser dated 23 November 2018.
For the year 2019/20 there will be a decrease in driver's renewal fees. There is no change to the other fees.
The decrease in drivers renewal fees is due to the fact that the process for carrying out right-to-work checks on all driver renewals will be complete in 2019. This cost of carrying out the right-to-work checks was £18 so this has now been removed from the fee-setting calculations, making a three-year renewal £388, down from £406.
We would remind hackney carriage drivers the fee for licensing a hackney carriage vehicle includes approximately £35 for the rental of taxi ranks at Egham, Chertsey and Addlestone from South Western Railways.
We are one of very few councils to have this arrangement with a railway operator and this is much to drivers' benefit, without such an arrangement South Western Railways would charge individual drivers a yearly fee for the rent of a rank space, this would be in the order of £600 - £1,000 for each driver per year.
