Hackney Carriage and private hire licensing fees

The council sets fees to cover the cost of its taxi-licensing regime.

We aim to set fees to cover our costs and in doing so are mindful of the impact any increase has on the trade. Fees are reviewed every year and changes in processes are taken into account.

The fees for the year 2020/2021 were approved on 12 November 2019, there are no increases to your fees for this period.

The new fees come into effect on 1 April 2020.

We would remind hackney carriage drivers the fee for licensing a hackney carriage vehicle includes approximately £45 for the rental of taxi ranks at Egham, Chertsey and Addlestone from South Western Railways. The taxi rental rental cost is responsible for the difference between hackney carriage and private hire vehicle fees.

We are one of very few councils to have this arrangement with a railway operator and this is much to drivers' benefit, without such an arrangement South Western Railways would charge individual drivers a yearly fee for the rent of a rank space, this would be in the order of £600 - £1,000 for each driver per year.
