River Celebration Festival 2018

Runnymede Borough Council is excited to announce the 2018 River Celebration Festival that aims to revere all things river related.

We will be working with partners to extol the rivers that run through our borough. There will be activities throughout the year showcasing the fantastic activities, sport and culture our community offers. There will also be one-off events put on especially for the festival.River

From regattas to exhibitions and pond dipping to river walks - there will be something for everyone.



Saturday, 24 March - Runnymede River Celebration FREE Launch Event, 11am to 1pm at Chertsey Museum, 33 Windsor Street, Chertsey KT16 8AT.

The event will start with tea and coffee at 11am followed by a talk on the River Celebration Exhibition by Emma Warren, curator at Chertsey Museum, at 11.30am. The premier of 'A Year in the Life of Runnymede's Rivers and Waterways' film will start at noon and at 12.30pm the River Celebration Exhibition officially opens.

Saturday, 24 March - Forest Estate Community Hub River Themed Spring Fayre, noon to 3pm

Saturday, 26 May - Frogs Island Fair, 11am to 5pm at Pooley Green Recreation Ground

Tuesday ,19 June - Singing Picnics with river-themed songs for invited local schools, Runnymede Pleasure Grounds


Saturday, 7 July  - Black Cherry Fair, the Runnymede River film on the big screen

Tuesday, 31 July - Summer River Dipping at Chertsey Museum

Saturday, 11 August, and Sunday, 12 August - Chertsey Show, the Runnymede River film on the big screen

Monday, 25 September - River Walk for Living Well Week starts at 10am at Manor Farm Centre


Monday, 5 November, to Friday, 16 November - Junior Citizen for year 6 pupils with safety sets including a 10 minute talk from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, Thorpe Park.
