AECOM has been appointed by Runnymede Borough Council to undertake the required Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA) work to support the preparation of the Runnymede 2035 Local Plan.
Runnymede Borough Council is currently in the process of preparing a new Local Plan. Under section 19(5) of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, the Local Plan must be subject to a Sustainability Appraisal (SA) throughout its production, ensuring that it is fully consistent with and helps to implement the principles of sustainable development. In addition, the Environmental Assessment of Plans and Programmes Regulations 2004 requires that an Environmental Assessment be undertaken that meets the requirements of EU Directive 2001/42/EC.
The Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area (TBH SPA) was designated as an Special Protection Area (SPA) on 9 March 2005. The SPA comprises an area of lowland heath and woodland and is a habitat protected under UK and European law supporting a characteristic landscape and distinctive flora and fauna under threat and in decline.
