Thames Basin Heaths Supplementary Planning Document (SPD)
Runnymede Borough Council Thames Basin Heaths SPD consultation.
The Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area (SPA) is a series of internationally protected heathland habitats which are home to a number of protected species including ground nesting bird species.
In order to protect the heathland habitat and bird species, Runnymede along with other local authorities in Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey as well as Natural England have agreed a set of avoidance and mitigation measures which allows residential development to continue to come forward by providing alternative areas for recreation and an access and management project.
The draft Thames Basin Heaths SPD sets out the Council's approach to the measures required to avoid/mitigate impacts to the SPA and will replace the existing Thames Basin Heaths SPG adopted in 2009.
The Council wants to get your feedback on the draft SPD which is open to consultation between Monday 30 November 2020 and 5pm Monday 18 January 2021. The draft SPD can be viewed on the Council's website here.
The Council Offices and the local libraries are currently closed to the public due to Covid-19 and it is not currently possible to make the draft SPD and supporting material immediately available for inspection in these locations. Once the current Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted and premises re-open to the public hard copy material/documentation on CDs will be made available as soon as practically possible. For further information on library opening times and the services available please see the Surrey County Council website.
Until such a time, should any interested party without access to the internet wish to receive a hard copy of the Thames Basin Heaths Supplementary Planning Document (SPD), please contact the Council on 01932 838383.
