Review of parliamentary constituencies

Boundary review submission response - second phase

Runnymede Borough Council acknowledges the work undertaken by the Boundary Commission (the Commission) in formulating the second set of draft proposals.

Runnymede and Weybridge Constituency

We would like to thank the Commission for acknowledging the importance of retaining the Runnymede and Weybridge Constituency name and taking into consideration all the comments made in our previous submission.

In relation to the proposal not to move Egham Town and Egham Hythe into the new Windsor Constituency whilst the Council is pleased that these will be retained in the Runnymede and Weybridge constituency it is disappointed that Englefield Green and Virginia Water will replace these wards instead.

We would like to take the opportunity to reiterate that the interests of all residents of Runnymede Borough, including those of Englefield Green and Virginia Water, are best served by being part of the same parliamentary constituency, as stated in our original submission

If this recommendation were to remain, we would like to put forward that the VW4 (59) polling district, be moved back to Runnymede and Weybridge, over Windsor as this would make clearer dividing line along the railway track.  The electors within this polling district relate and go about their daily lives within Egham Town.

Name of the Windsor proposed constituency

In its proposal in respect of the naming of the new Windsor constituency to ensure that Englefield Green and Virginia Water are not forgotten Runnymede Borough Council would like to propose that the Constituency be renamed as Windsor Great Park
