Every November, Thorpe Park Resort sees 950 year six Runnymede pupils through its doors to take part in the Junior Citizen programme.
Direct lives have been saved because of what children have learnt on Junior Citizen.
The workshop, that has been running for over 20 years, brings children face-to-face with real-life, potentially dangerous scenarios that teach them how to act in emergency situations and how to avoid them happening in the first place.
The aim is to create safer communities by educating the younger generation on first aid, making a 999 call, stranger danger, anti-social behaviour and water, rail, electrical and internet safety.
The programme is run in a safe environment under the supervision of experts and professionals. The scheme is run in partnership between Runnymede Borough Council and Surrey Police. The event is supported by Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), British Transport Police, St John Ambulance, Network Rail, Tesco and Brooklands College.
At the end of the workshop each child is given a handbook with a certificate, more information, puzzles and quizzes.
