Join our Community Design Panel

The Council is setting up a Community Design Panel so that the local community can help shape a new Design Code for Runnymede. Take this chance to positively influence future development in your area!

What is a Design Code?

A design code is a planning document that sets out specific design requirements for new development. The Runnymede Design Code will be used to help decide whether development proposals are acceptable in design terms.

We need your help to develop a successful Design Code which reflects local knowledge about character and design preferences, and which will ultimately deliver new development that has the support of the local community.

What will Community Design Panel members do?

Panel members will be invited to take part in two in-person workshops, taking place on two Saturday afternoons later this year, to help develop a vision and identify priorities for the Design Code. The first workshop is expected to take place on the afternoon of Saturday 12 October 2024, in Egham. The venue will be fully accessible, is near to public transport links, and has free parking.

To thank you for your time, we’ll supply cakes, refreshments and enter you into a prize draw to win one of five £50 shopping vouchers.

Members may also be asked to provide occasional feedback at key stages of Design Code development during this and next year. It won’t take up a lot of your time, and you won’t need any specific skills for this role or any knowledge of the planning system – just some enthusiasm and an interest in improving the quality of new buildings and places across Runnymede.

What will happen with the Panel’s findings?

Your feedback will help shape the content of the Design Code - covering a range of topics from street design, to building materials, to energy efficiency measures, to parking and bin design. Results will be shared with councillors, relevant officers and participants, and a summary of outputs may also appear in Council publications and press releases.

Responses from individuals will never be identifiable unless prior permission is given, for example, a quote from an individual may be used in a press release if permission is granted. Our Privacy Notice explains how we use information you provide and how we protect your privacy.

How can I apply to join the Community Design Panel?

We’d love to hear from you! We’re hoping to recruit members of all backgrounds and ages (18 or over).
