The easiest way to pay your Council Tax is by Direct Debit but there are other options depending on your circumstances.
You can update your direct debit online with the option to pay on the 1st, 8th, 15th or 22nd of the month.
Council Tax is normally paid in 10 monthly instalments from 1 April. You can arrange to pay in 12 monthly instalments if you contact us before 15 April of the tax year.
Council Tax is due on the 1st of each month, however if you pay by Direct Debit you can choose to pay on either the 1st, 8th, 15th or 22nd of the month. If you need to change this you can do so online.
If there is a change to your household or you need to update your details please send us an email to let us know.
You will be liable for Council Tax from the start date of your tenancy and up until your tenancy end date regardless of whether you are resident in the property or not.
You may be able to claim a discount if the property is empty and unfurnished for a period during your tenancy i.e. you move out before your tenancy ends. This can be awarded for up to three months from the date the furniture was removed.
If the property has been empty and unfurnished when your tenancy began then part or even all of this discount may have been used and no discount will be available and the full charge will apply.
You will need to register for a Runnymede OneAccount and then add the council tax service to your account. We have also created a helpful video to assist when adding the service.
If you have added the Council Tax service to your OneAccount you can view your account activity which details payments you have made and payments which are due.
This will be because we haven’t received a payment from you that was due and therefore this is a reminder to bring your account up to date before further recovery action is taken. You can make an online payment for the balance due.
As Council Tax payments are mostly paid in advance, where there is a change in your circumstances a credit may occur on your account. These credits can be refunded to you after verification.
Please note if you receive a refund you are not entitled to, you will be required to pay it back to Runnymede Borough Council.
It is important you let us know quickly if you are experiencing difficulty in paying your Council Tax. We have lots of information on our website that could help if you are worried.
