Consultation on Building Safety Policy for Residents of Surrey Towers - Addlestone
Our Commitment to You
At Runnymede Borough Council, we are committed to keeping you safe in your homes. Our Building Safety Policy ensures that we meet the requirements of the Building Safety Act 2022, which focuses on buildings like yours that are 18 metres or more in height (about 7 storeys or taller).
What’s the Goal?
The aim of this policy is to manage building safety risks, make sure we follow the law, and most importantly, involve you, the residents, in decisions about your safety. We want to work together to ensure your building remains safe and secure.
Our Responsibilities
The Council is responsible for making sure Surrey Towers is safe. This includes:
- Regular fire risk assessments to spot and address potential risks.
- Keeping an up-to-date safety case that explains how we keep the building safe for everyone.
- Ensuring that we use qualified contractors and install proper fire safety measures.
We’ve also put in place a system for you to report any building safety concerns, ensuring that safety issues are taken seriously and acted on quickly.
What Does This Mean for You?
Residents are also expected to follow new rules to help keep everyone safe:
- Don't do anything that could cause a fire or damage the building’s structure.
- Don’t tamper with safety equipment like smoke and heat detectors or fire doors.
- Cooperate with requests if we need to enter your home to inspect or fix safety-related issues.
Working with Surrey Fire & Rescue Service
We will continue working with Surrey Fire & Rescue Service and other stakeholders to ensure everything is in place for your safety. This includes:
- Keeping emergency fire safety signage up to date.
- Regularly inspecting fire doors and other safety features.
- Keeping all building safety information secure and easy to access.
What’s Next?
We’ll regularly review this policy to keep up with new safety rules and guidelines. And we want your feedback! If you have thoughts or questions about this policy, let us know – your opinion matters and helps us improve..
After the consultation period closes on Monday 3 February 2025, we will carefully review all feedback and draft a revised Building Safety Policy. This draft will be shared with residents for further input before implementation. We appreciate your time and involvement in helping us make Surrey Towers a safer home for everyone. Together, we can create a policy that prioritises safety and fosters peace of mind for all residents.
We are committed to keeping you safe and informed every step of the way. Thank you for being part of this important conversation.
