New pay and display machines: Drivers can pay by card in our car parks!

New pay and display machines will be installed at several car parks run by Runnymede Borough Council during early September.

We’re upgrading the machines to provide more modern and convenient parking payment options for drivers.

The new pay and display machines will for the first time allow debit and credit card payments. Cash payments will no longer be accepted, but drivers will still be able to pay using the RingGo app or by calling the RingGo phone line.

Work on the first tranche of car parks to have the solar powered machines installed will begin next week. Users of these car parks will see the new machines being installed on either Wednesday 4 September or Thursday 5 September.

In September 2023, the decision was made by our Corporate Management Committee to replace the existing machines, some of which are over 20 years old. This was in response to increasing vandalism, theft, and the rising costs associated with handling cash in our car parks.

We have also considered feedback from residents and visitors, and the introduction of card payments for the first time is a direct response to requests for a more convenient and efficient parking experience.

People who do not have bank cards, can use pre-paid cards which are widely available and can be topped up via a range of outlets.

Blue badge holders will still be able to park for free in the off street parking bays.
