Do you know a teenager who loves being outdoors? There’s now just one week left to sign them up for the Runnymede Junior Ranger Programme.
Junior Rangers is our new initiative where young people can help protect wildlife and gain hands-on experience in conservation.
The programme, which is run by the National Trust and funded by Runnymede Borough Council, offers a unique opportunity to inspire the next generation of conservationists.
Starting on Sunday, 6 October, the programme runs for six months with sessions held on the first Sunday of each month from 10am to 1pm. These sessions will take place in various locations based around the National Trust’s Runnymede and Ankerwycke site, near Runnymede Pleasure Grounds. It offers participants a chance to experience the beauty of this historic site while contributing to their upkeep and conservation.
What does Junior Rangers involve?
The Junior Ranger Programme is designed to provide hands-on experience in various aspects of conservation and countryside management. Participants will work alongside National Trust Rangers and volunteer Ranger and Habitat Monitors on tasks such as:
- vegetation control,
- planting trees,
- woodland management,
- countryside maintenance,
- litter picking, and
- habitat and wildlife surveys.
These activities are educational and incredibly rewarding, allowing young people to see the tangible impact of their efforts on the environment.
How to apply
Applications for the Junior Ranger Programme are open until 16 September 2024. Spaces are limited to just 20 people, ensuring a high-quality experience with plenty of individual attention and support.
