Chertsey Museum is inviting crafters, stitchers and sewers to take part in a creative project to celebrate the history of St Peter’s Hospital and the contributions of local NHS heroes.
As part of the St Peter’s Hospital Untold Stories Project, museum visitors can help create a collaborative wall hanging that will become a permanent part of the museum’s collection.
Led by Benta Hickley, participants design their own patchwork square using felt, fabric scraps, or fabric pens. These individual squares will be pieced together to form a larger artwork that honours the hospital staff, both past and present, as part of a broader celebration of the hospital’s legacy.
The project is funded by the Association of Independent Museums and the National Lottery Heritage Fund, in collaboration with Chertsey Museum and St Peter’s Hospital’s Healing Arts Programme. It aims to preserve the stories and memories of hospital workers through the creation of a museum archive and a future exhibition, set to open in 2025.
The free craft sessions will be held at Chertsey Museum on October 30 from 12.30–1.30pm and 2-3pm, with another session on November 2 from 11.30am–12.30pm. Open to adults and children alike, this is a chance to get creative while contributing to a meaningful community project.
