Consultation feedback
In April, we began consultation with tenants on the draft Balcony Safet Policy. We consulted with tenants who had a balcony in their home, and asked for their views on what restrictions should be put in place on smoking on balconies.
How we consulted
As we primarily wanted the views from residents impacted by the policy, we only contacted those with a balcony. We emailed all tenants we have details for, and who had a balcony (174). We received 40 responses (23% response rate).
What we learnt
- 83% of respondents identified as non-smokers
- 40% selected that smoking should not be allowed on any balcony
- 40% selected that smoking should not be allowed on any balcony if it causes a nuisance to other residents
- Open responses asked for restrictions and limitations, such as enforcing ash trays to avoid cigarette butts from being thrown onto communal grounds
