Support with moving policy

How we consulted

• We asked resident who have downsized, are waiting to downsize, and are potentially over-occupying their home, to tell us their issues and concerns about moving to a smaller home.
• We emailed all those residents the above applies to, and selected residents at random those who may be over-occupying to discuss what barriers they face when thinking about downsizing.
• Visited the Independent Retirement Living schemes to discuss what the Council could have done to support them more when moving
• Telephoned all tenants who had downsized
• Sent out flyers with information on the draft Support with Moving Policy to those we do not hold an email address for

What we learnt

• Results from the consultation influenced the following changes:
• Extending the policy offer to help tenants move to social housing outside of the Borough
• You said a financial incentive before moving would be useful, so the costs don’t cause difficulties. We will pay contractors directly to ease pressure
• You said you would prefer a personal touch, rather than letters or phone calls. We will offer in-person meetings and a friend or family member to be there too.
