Garfield Road get together

Garfield

In May 2023 we put on an event for residents of Garfield Road to discuss  number of items that impact their area.

Together with Police, Surrey Fire and Rescue, and Crime Stoppers, we provided free and fun event including bouncy castle, ice cream van, face painting, and football taster sessions.

We also wanted to talk about the changes we have made to help reduce anti-social behaviour, understand residents’ views on building and fire safety view, and gain their input on play area improvements.

Anti-Social behaviour

In October 2021 Runnymede Borough Council held joint action day with residents of Garfield Road area in Addlestone. We listened to the residents concerns about Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB). We then planned range of improvements, incorporating residents views, which included

  • Enhancing the CCTV coverage
  • Hired AddlestoneOne to carry out patrols
  • Installed new vandal resistant door entry system
  • Put in fencing to avoid secluded alley ways

The majority of residents said they had noticed decline in ASB, and many were interested in forming residents’ group for the area. This way we can regularly address community concerns and improvements, and discuss ASB that occurs and potential solutions.

If you live in the Garfield Road area, and would like to be involved in this group, contact us on listening@runnymede.gov.uk

Fire and building safety

We also wanted to discuss with residents the Government’ new Fire Safety Regulations with residents which expands on existing fire protection for high-rise buildings such as Surrey Towers.

We wanted to find out about resident’ safety concerns, understand what information they would like to know regarding building and fire safety, and how this can be communicated to residents.

We did not get everyone’ views on this, so we will be going out to speak with residents again to ensure everyone’ voice is heard when it comes to fire safety.

Play area regeneration

We are reviewing the play areas in Garfield Road. We hope to give them revamp and wanted residents’ views on this.

We asked residents about their experience with the local play areas, and what they would like to see if the Council is able to enhance them. This may include brining in replacement equipment, different ideas, or moving the play areas completely to more visible spot.

Residents expressed desire for the park areas to be reviewed and upgraded. We plan to work closely with residents on the regeneration, and will continue to consider their views in decision-making.
