Part of the way we are improving how we listen to and work with tenants and leaseholders is by making our policies and strategies more readable and accessible. We want to make it is easier for customers to share their views on them.
There were some great examples of how tenants views influenced our policies in the printed version of the Annual Report. These include the Financial Wellbeing Strategy and the Recharge Policy. Tenant's views also influenced our Pet Policy. See below some examples of the changes we made.
Pet Policy
You said: Many residents were positive about the policy and a call for responsible pet ownership. Some residents questioned how we would monitor it.
We did: We have added to our policy that, after giving approval for a pet we will conduct an annual check to ensure that the tenant continues their commitment as a responsible pet owner.
You said: Many residents understood why pets are not allowed in temporary accommodation, however emphasised the emotional impact this would have on a pet owner. .
We did: We are now investigating options for financial support to house a pet while their owner is in temporary accommodation.
Mobility Scooter Policy
You said: It was important for mobility scooters to be insured and safety tested but would be helpful if the Council organised this to ensure it is done to the correct standard.
We did: We are now arranging for the council to carry out an annual Portable Appliance Testing for residents of Independent Retirement Living who have permission for a mobility scooter.
