Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant
Runnymede Borough Council is an Armed Forces Covenant Gold Award winning employer, committed to supporting the Armed Forces community working and residing in Surrey. We are passionate about building an inclusive and diverse workforce, welcoming candidates from a variety of backgrounds, skills and abilities. We are committed to meeting the needs of all employees who are connected to or contributing to the military, including families.
- Creating forces-friendly human resources policies to support staff who are reserves or Cadet Forces Adult Volunteers, including providing extra annual leave.
- Hosting a reserves recruitment event to encourage employees to consider joining the reserve armed forces.
- Including criteria around support for armed forces and employing service leavers in the Runnymede Business Awards’ Employer of the Year award.
- Updating the Housing Allocations Policy which waivers the three-year connection to the borough for any serving forces person, bereaved/divorced spouse and seriously injured.
Hear from one of our reserves, Andrew Pritchard, Chief Executive
Military and civilian organisations have a huge amount to offer each other. By succeeding in our bid to become a gold standard employer at our first attempt we’ve shown that we value that relationship, and the people who make time in their personal lives to support the UK’s defence requirements.
The provision we make for people who are willing to give up their time to develop younger residents through cadet activities and in some instances take considerable personal risk through active service says a lot about who we are; it goes to the core of our culture.
