Eligibility for Storm Henk flood recovery framework grants

If you are a householder whose property has been flooded internally by the recent adverse weather caused by Storm Henk between 2 to 12 January 2024, you may be eligible for financial assistance to help you recover.

• You can apply for a £500 Government Community Recovery Grant to help cover the costs of repairs and essential items damaged by the floods.
• You can also receive a 100% discount on your Council Tax for 3 months to ease the financial burden during this difficult time.

Qualifying criteria    

• The property must be your sole or main residence
• The residential part of the property has been flooded in whole or in part internally as a result of Storm Henk. This means habitable internal areas of the premises have been seriously damaged by a flood necessitating drying out and/or repairs to the fabric of the building. Flooded gardens, garages or outbuildings will NOT render a household eligible to receive support.
• You can only make one claim per property affected
• Second Homes and unoccupied properties do not qualify for this discount

Applying the discount

If a discount is awarded it will be applied to your Council Tax account. It will not be refunded but will be credited against your 2023/24 bill. If you have already paid in full for 2023/24 the credit will be off set against your 2024/25 bill.

What happens after 3 months?

No further discount will be awarded after the 3-month discount has ended. If after the discount has ended, you are still unable to move back into your home of the flooding email council.tax@runnymede.gov.uk If you are insured, you should check with your insurer to see if your Council Tax is covered beyond the 3-month discount period.

Council Tax Support

If you qualify for the flood relief discount and were receiving Council Tax Support during this period, your Council Tax Support will be removed for the full period of the discount as you will have nothing to pay. It will be restarted after the 3 month discount period has ended
