Business rates reductions - flood relief
If you are a Business whose property has been flooded internally by the recent adverse weather caused by Storm Henk between 2 to 12 January 2024, you may qualify for a 100% discount for 3 months.
Qualifying criteria
The business premises has been flooded in whole or in part internally as a result of Storm Henke. For example: internal areas which are critical to the day-to-day operations (i.e. not storage sheds or warehouses) have been damaged, necessitating drying out and/or repairs to the fabric of the building, occurring as a result of flooding.
- You are unable to trade for a period of time due to flood damage to your business premises
- You can only make one claim per property affected
- Empty business premises do not qualify for this discount
Applying the discount
If a discount is awarded it will be applied to your Business Rates account. It will not be refunded but will be credited against your 2023/24 bill. If you have already paid in full for 2023/24 the credit will be off set against your 2024/25 bill.
What happens after 3 months?
No further discount will be awarded after the 3-month discount has ended. If after the discount has ended, you are still unable to trade as a result of the flooding email business.rates@runnymede.gov.uk If you are insured, you should check with your insurer to see if your Business Rates is covered beyond the 3-month discount period.
