Specsavers Surrey Youth Games

On the 15 June 2024 at Surrey Sports Park, Runnymede Borough Council took part in the Specsavers Surrey Youth Games 2024. In total, seven Boroughs in Surrey attended the Games Day putting forwards teams to represent in eight different sports.

Specsavers Surrey Youth Games gives our younger residents the opportunity to receive eight weeks free sports coaching in a chosen sport, where they can try something new, learn new skills, and make new friends. The ambition is to create a positive experience for all those who take part and to encourage the young person to continue in their chosen sport. After the eight weeks’ coaching sessions, all boroughs are invited to the Games Day to play amongst other boroughs.

This year, we had over 180 young people registered to attend coaching across all eight sports (Boccia, Dance, Rugby, Judo, Row/Bike/Run, Street Basketball, Swimming, Tennis). On the festival day, 72 young individuals represented Team Runnymede at Surrey Sports Park and showcase their skills in front of their friends and family.

A huge thank you to Active Surrey, the organisers of The Specsavers Surrey Youth Games, for another fantastic year. We would also like to thank the local sporting providers who delivered the coaching to our young individuals. Their expertise and friendly nature were crucial in giving everyone who took part a positive experience and keeping them interested in the sports during and after the Surrey Youth Games.

We really enjoy being able to offer this opportunity to our residents, especially when we hear how much it means to the children and their parents: “We really enjoyed the festival day, my son made some new friends and grew in confidence as the coaching progressed. We were really happy with the level of coaching. They were so good with the children and my son really trusted them which is why they kept wanting to come back” (Parents of a child attending the coaching).

We will update this page as we get more information on Specsavers Surrey Youth Games 2025.
