Specsavers Surrey Youth Games

Activities

This year we have a selection of FREE activities to choose from that are LOCAL to you.

Remember, all the kids starting out will be beginners to the activity.

Here’s a quick introduction to the options on offer. Some might be familiar - others might not be!

Boccia 1

School Years 3 - 11

Boccia - pronounced 'Bot-cha' - is a fast-growing, paralympic sport. It’s a fun game of strategy and accuracy, played indoors on a court similar in size to a badminton court. Participants throw, kick or use a ramp to propel a ball with the aim of getting closest to a 'jack' ball. Players can compete as an individual, in pairs, or as a team of three.

Dance

School Years 3 - 6

Unleash your inner rhythm and discover new moves! An amazing way to get fit and improve balance and agility. Dance is also great way to be part of a new crew and to lift your mood.

By the way, the dance offerings across the county will vary - click to the booking form to discover what’s on near YOU this spring.

Girls touch rugby

School Years 5 - 8

One of the fastest growing sports in the world – this is rugby without the tackles! A game of evasion, quick passing, and touch tackling - it centres on having fun and making new friends. A great team sport which is non-contact, it’s easy to learn and play and has a place for everyone whatever your sporting background. Come give it a try, you won’t regret it!

Judo

Aged between 8-12 years old

Judo is a modern Japanese martial art and incredibly popular Olympic sport. Beginners will learn throws, groundwork and learning to fall safely – it’s also a great workout, which benefits lots of other sports! The word Judo means ‘the gentle way’ and it teaches self-respect, self-control and discipline in a fun and safe environment.

Row bike run

School Years 7 - 11

A great way to dip your toe into cross training – you get to mix it up with cycling, running and rowing! This is a triathlon you can do without a pool, but which comes with all the fun of doing different forms of exercise. The focus here is very much on variety of activities and getting into the spirit of the ‘race’.

Basketball

School Years 7 - 8

Street basketball is an increasingly popular version of the sport, but it has a more easy-going approach to the conventional rules of basketball.
Typically played on outdoor courts, two teams of 5 players each try to score by shooting a ball through a hoop 10 feet above the ground. It was born in the parks and streets of New York and is lots of fun.

Swimming

School Years 4 - 6

Learn to swim! These classes will teach fundamental water skills designed to build confidence in those who may need additional support swimming. Particularly relevant to children who may not have had a chance to become water-confident, it’s also great for shy or nervous children or those with additional needs.

Tennis

School Year 3

Tennis is a great workout and fantastic for coordination and agility, aswell as developing strategic skills. It's also a handy sport to play socially as you only need one other player!

In the training, you'll learn the fundamental skills to help your enjoyment of this sport long after the games have finished!
