Take part in an environmental initiative

There are lots of groups in Runnymede borough that are focussed on the environment and promoting sustainable principles. Some of these are listed below, and if you are part of a group and would like to be added to this list, email climatechange@runnymede.gov.uk

The Village Centre, Englefield Green 

The Village Centre run several initiatives, including a community fridge on a Monday and Friday morning from 9am to 11am which makes fresh food that would otherwise be wasted freely available to the surrounding community.

St John’s Eco-church, Egham 

St John’s run a community fridge every Saturday from 11am to 1pm and often host other activities focussed on sustainable principles, including Really Really Free Markets, an annual Eco-festival, and opportunities to upcycle and repair items that would otherwise be thrown out.

New Haw Litter Pickers, New Haw 

New Haw litter pickers organise community litter picks around every six weeks, usually managing to cover around a quarter of New Haw at a time with many teams doing different routes and provide all the equipment needed to take part.

The Hub, Englefield Green 

The Hub run a number of activities on a weekly basis based around the environment, including a gardening club from 10am to 12pm on Wednesdays, and a Bee Keeping Club on Saturday mornings.

Holme Farm, Woodham 

Holme Farm are a registered charity offering a local hub for biodiversity, wellbeing, and community set across 14 acres of countryside. They run a number of projects that people can get involved with, including a community garden, upcycling activities, a Saunature spa, and conservation activities to improve biodiversity.

Surrey Wildlife Trust

The Surrey Wildlife Trust care for over 5,000 hectares of land for wildlife in Surrey across 60 reserves, working with organisations and landowners to extend, protect and connect habitats for wildlife across the county and to inspire local communities and young people to care for nature where they live.

Egham and Staines Conservation Volunteers 

Egham and Staines Conservation Volunteers meet once a fortnight throughout the year in the Runnymede and Spelthorne areas to perform a variety of tasks, all aimed at improving the local environment.

Runnymede Libraries 

Libraries in Addlestone, New Haw, Egham, Chertsey, and Virginia Water got involved with activities for the Great Big Green Week 2024, plus libraries are a great way to borrow books that will be used again and again rather than buying new which uses virgin paper.
