Runnymede Borough Council joined forces with its local communities to celebrate the Great Big Green Week from 8 to 16 June 2024.
As a Council, we are committed to making our operational emissions net zero by 2030 and supporting our communities towards improved sustainability and a healthier environment across Runnymede as set out in our Climate Change Strategy
The Great Big Green Week is the UK’s biggest ever celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature. Local groups across the UK organised events around the themes of climate change action, sustainability, and nature preservation. The theme of Great Big Green Week 2024 was ‘Let’s Swap Together for Good’.
In Runnymede, there were a huge variety of events that took place across the borough. From nature walks and nature talks, to litter picks and environmental workshops in schools, there was so much positivity created around climate action and nature protection. A report was taken to the Council’s Corporate Management Committee in September 2024 to summarise the full range of events that occurred throughout Great Big Green Week and to agree the Council’s involvement for 2025, which is taking place from 7 to 15 June 2025. The committee again decided to support, promote, co-ordinate, provide assistance, and participate in the Great Big Green Week 2025.
