The Great Big Green Week events

Runnymede Borough Council would like to join forces with its local communities to celebrate the Great Big Green Week - 2025 from 7 to 15 June 2025.

We are planning our own events, and we would also love to collate and promote all the events being organised in the local area. Email climatechange@runnymede.gov.uk to let us know what you are planning and link your event to the ‘Runnymede Local Green Week’ when adding it to the Great Big Green Week website

We will be regularly updating these pages in the lead up to Great Big Green Week 2025. Stay tuned for information about events taking place in Runnymede or use this tool from Great Big Green Week to find events happening near you!

Plant Swap

Location: The Hub Englefield Green, 57 Larchwood Drive, Englefield Green, TW20 0SL
and Village Centre, 68 Victoria Street, Englefield Green, TW20 0QX
Date: Saturday 7 June to Sunday 15 June 2025
Time: All week
Cost: Free

Plant swap opportunity to increase the diversity of plants in your area and grow local food. A crate of labelled plants will be outside the front doors of the Hub, Englefield Green and the Village Centre, Englefield Green. Please bring plants to leave, clearly labelled, and choose plants in similar number to take away.

Englefield Green Litter Pick

Location: Victoria Street Car Park, 31 Victoria Street, Egham, TW20 0QX
Date: Saturday 14 June 2025
Time: 11am
Cost: Free

Join the Englefield Green litter pickers for a pick in celebration of Great Big Green Week! Meet at Victoria Street Car Park for an 11am start, where streets will be designated among the group to cover the area. Afterwards, head to the Armstrong Gun to socialise and share stories with fellow litter pickers.

SEED Dance Performance

Location: Egham Library, High Street, Egham, TW20 9EA
Date: Saturday 7 June 2025

Cost: Minimum donation of £2 per person recommended when booking

Celebrating The Great Big Green Week 2025 Made by Katie Green is bringing SEED, a dance performance for libraries, inspired by nature and the world around us, to Egham Library. Join us where we will take your child on an adventure of plants that will tap into a world of imagination through reading.

St John’s Community Fridge 

Location: St John's Egham, Manor Farm Lane, Egham, TW20 9HR

Help to tackle food waste in your local community by visiting the St John's community fridge. The main purpose of a community fridge is to save fresh food from going to waste. It is a site where local people can share food, this includes surplus from supermarkets, local food businesses, producers, households and gardens. The community fridge is open to everyone, regardless of means and is not a food bank or a solution to food poverty.

Repair Clinic and Bicycle Repair

Reduce landfill waste and improve the condition of your bike to promote cycling by booking a spot at the St John's repair clinic and bicycle repair workshop. A Repair Clinic is about helping you to give your household a second life. It is about enabling you to learn the skills yourself to fix something, maintain or sharpen your tools or perhaps being able to talk through something that needs mending. The repair clinic welcomes everyone who would like to be enabled to fix their own items. The coaches are experienced and can guide you to repair your own items however may not always have the part to fix your item. If you’re not sure of the part you need for say a bicycle fix, then bring your item along at the beginning for a quick assessment. The coaches will let you know what needs to be purchased. It should be noted that you are expected to stay and help / observe / get involved with the fix being done.

Junior Craft Club

On Saturday 7 & 14 June 2025, Egham Library will be running a Junior Craft Club, with junk modelling on 7 June and leaf impression art on 14 June, in celebration of Great Big Green Week.

Evening Tree Walks with Egham Treewatch

Location: Meet each evening in Magna Square, by the field oaks outside the Everyman Cinema (TW20 9FG)
Date: Tuesday 10, Thursday 12, and Friday 13 June 2025
Time: 6pm to 7pm each evening
Cost: Free

Join Egham Treewatch across three evenings during Great Big Green Week to explore the trees of the surrounding area. Each evening will have a different focus:

Tuesday 10 June: Protected trees 1 - Visit trees in Egham protected by a Tree Preservation Order
Thursday 12 June: Protected trees 2 - Visit trees in Egham’s Conservation Area, and Public Open Spaces
Friday 13 June: Visit the group’s favourite trees in Egham

Free to attend and open to anyone who loves trees. Come prepared for a walk and dressed for the weather. Children are welcome and must be accompanied by an adult. Meet each evening in Magna Square, under the trees outside the Everyman Cinema, ready to leave at 6 pm.

St John's Litter Pick

Chertsey Meads Balsam Bash

Location: Chertsey Meads, Mead Lane, Chertsey KT16 8LL

Help protect native species by removing invasive Himalayan Balsam from our riverbanks at the 2025 Chertsey Meads Balsam Bash! No previous experience is necessary. Suitable for all ages and family friendly. Please wear sturdy footwear and outdoor clothing and bring gardening gloves if you can. Parking is available on site.

Wellbeing Walk

Join a group from Holme Farm for a wellbeing walk in Ottershaw to celebrate Great Big Green Week. Meet outside the Castle Pub in Ottershaw at 2pm. The walk will be approximately 1.5 hours with slightly uneven ground, followed by refreshments provided at Holme Farm.

Community Litter Pick

Join New Haw Litter Pickers on their community litter pick for Great Big Green Week. The group provide all equipment including litter pickers, waste bags, bag hoops, high visibility vests etc. If you’d like to join them in keeping New Haw clean, as well as gaining all the other benefits of joining this friendly community group, check Newhawlitterpickers to find out more and get in touch to express your interest in taking part.


Gardening Open Morning at Holme Farm

Join the community gardening team at Holme Farm for a gardening open morning in celebration of Great Big Green Week. At the Holme Farm vegetable patch, the team grow fruit and vegetables for as much of the year as possible. Even in the cold winter months, they plant exciting species from cooler climes. And when springtime comes, they’re ready to plant more traditional English vegetables. Visit to learn more about the gardens and experience the benefits of taking part.

Craft Open Morning at Holme Farm

Join the team at Holme Farm for craft open morning in celebration of Great Big Green Week. They have a huge stock of craft materials, including paint, clay, fabric and wool. Expert volunteers can guide you – they’re full of ideas to fit every mood and ability. Alternatively, you can simply raid the craft stock and let your creativity flow. Craft sessions are about bringing things into being that weren’t there before. And just as importantly, they’re about being together. The group love the social side of crafting and  feel it’s every bit as beneficial as the satisfaction of finishing a project.

Woodturning Showcase at Holme Farm

Join the team at Holme Farm for a woodturning showcase in celebration of Great Big Green Week. Every week, friendly volunteers welcome people from all backgrounds to the workshop. The group hold regular workshops in woodwork, wood turning, DIY, crafts, sewing and more. All workshops are dedicated to combating loneliness and improving mental health - everyone is welcome.

Green Rhyme Time

On Friday 13 June, the library will be running a rhyme time with an environmental focus. This is a wonderful time to bring your toddler to the library, whether you are a parent, grandparent, or carer. Together you can enjoy nursery rhymes and songs and meet other parents and carers.


Green Children’s Craft

Location: Virginia Water Library, 6 Station Parade, Virginia Water, GU25 4AD
Date: Saturday 14 June
Time: 10:30 to 12:30
Cost: Donation of £1 per child

On Saturday 14 June, the library will be running a children’s craft activity with an environmental focus. This is a great opportunity to get creative, and our crafty team provide inspiration and materials for your child to try out and make something to take home.

The event is suitable for age 3-9 years, and all children must be accompanied by an adult. There is a donation of £1 per child, and no advance booking required although numbers may need to be managed.
