Efficient driving practices
If you are not going to be replacing your fossil fuel car anytime soon, and where active travel or public transport is not possible, there are still things you can do to reduce your fuel consumption and emissions.
The Energy Saving Trust has produced a list of top tips for driving more efficiently, including:
- Driving smoothly, avoiding harsh braking and acceleration
- Shifting to a higher gear early and avoiding excessive speeds
- Switching off your engine if you’re going to be stationary for more than a minute. Leaving your engine on when stationary for this time is referred to as idling as is a focus area for our 2024/24 Climate Change Communications Plan.
- Checking that your tyres are well inflated
